Cape Town City FC chairman John Comitis has confirmed that Bayern Munich have invited 17-year-old starlet Emile Witbooi for a trial. The offensive midfielder, who previously trained with Chelsea in 2024, is being scouted by top European clubs after his standout performances at the U17 World Cup in November 2025.

What's next for Witbooi?

Witbooi, who turns 18 in late August 2026, is eligible for an international transfer. Cape Town City FC are evaluating Bayern Munich's invitation while other clubs from England, France, Spain, and Germany monitor his progress. Comitis stated, "We're reviewing the offer to keep him engaged and see what level he needs to reach."

Why Bayern Munich are interested

The Bavarian giants are impressed by Witbooi's performances, including his goals against Bolivia and Qatar at the U17 World Cup. He has also made first-team appearances for Cape Town City FC, who finished second in the 2025 First Division season with 54 points (15W-9D-6L), scoring 45 goals and conceding 23.

Cape Town City FC's rising talent

Witbooi is managed by Roc Nation Sports International, which also represents Vinicius Jr. and Yan Diomande. His development is closely watched, and a move to Europe could be on the horizon if he continues to excel. Meanwhile, Cape Town City FC trail league leaders Kruger United by 8 points.
