Cape Town City FC Rejects €800,000 Bid for Teenage Star Emile Witbooi
Cape Town City FC have rejected a €800,000 bid for their U-17 star Emile Witbooi from Polish side Gornik Zabrze. The teenager established himself as one of Cape Town City's hottest prospects, enjoying plenty of playing time last season in City's bid for promotion back to the Betway Premiership.
Why it matters for Cape Town City FC
Witbooi remains in-demand after picking up the Motsepe Foundation Championship Player of the Season. Roc Nation's Nathan Campbell revealed last month that there are several European clubs interested in the Northern Cape native, including sides in Spain, England and Belgium.
What comes next?
The 17-year-old is still under contract with the Cape side for another three years, with the club reportedly willing to consider a deal for the right fee. According to Transfermarkt, the Citizens rejected an offer from the Polish outfit, who will be playing in the UEFA Europa League next season. The club are reportedly holding out for a deal in the region of €1 million (approximately R19 million) for the Amajimbos star.
