Cape Town City FC have confirmed Andries Ulderink as their new coach ahead of the 2026/27 season. The Citizens recently parted ways with Jan Vreman after missing out on promotion to the Betway Premiership.

What happened?

Ulderink served as technical director at City last season while the club competed in the Motsepe Foundation Championship for the first time and has now stepped into take over the vacant head coaching role.

Why it matters for Cape Town City FC

City finished second in the Championship and qualified for the end of season playoffs, but were unable to win promotion. Milford FC ended up winning the ticket to the promised land, finishing top of the standings to make the step up to the big league.

What comes next?

Ulderink has years of experience working at some of the top clubs in Europe, such as Ajax Amsterdam, Reading, Rangers and Bayer Levekusen. The Citizens will have their work cut out in trying to win promotion to the topflight next season, but the experience they've gained from the past campaign could come in handy this time round in their bid to challenge for automatic promotion.
