Cape Town City FC's hopes of returning to the Betway Premiership are over after a 1-1 draw with Magesi FC, Therlo Moosa and Mcedisi Vandala on target. The Citizens had targeted another win in their final playoff affair, following their last-gasp win over Milford FC on Saturday. Therlo Moosa got a chance to unlock the visitors seven minutes gone, but steered his shot into the side-netting. Moosa made up for the earlier miss five minutes to the break, showing predatory instincts to latch onto a spill by Elvis Chipezeze and roll the ball into an empty net. Magesi FC were back on level terms five minutes into the second half after a through ball from Sifiso Luthuli released a charging Mcedisi Vandala, who rounded Luca Olario to find the far corner. City very nearly got back in front in the 60th minute, but Chipezeze managed to palm the effort to safety. The momentum continued to favour the host, with Mossa and Sifiso Ngobeni threatening, but Chipezeze remained key late on, making several key interventions. Dikwena secured a vital point to remain in second spot on the play-off table, as City officially bowed out of the race for promotion. The draw means Cape Town City FC will not be returning to the Betway Premiership next season. Magesi FC's coach, Allan Freese, will be pleased with the point, which keeps his team in contention for promotion. Cape Town City FC's players will be disappointed, but they can take heart from their performance, which showed glimpses of their potential. The Citizens will now have to regroup and plan for next season, with the aim of making a stronger push for promotion.
